1. Mission: To provide compassionate and kind stewardship to our homeless brothers and sisters. 2. The CWS started in 2019 with 4 churches: St. Theresa's Catholic Church--St. Vincent de Paul; St. Matthew's Episcopal Church; Westover Hills Church of Christ; Mosaic Church. 3. Our CWS follows the guidelines used by the City of Austin. However, our homeless neighbors will not go downtown due to a variety of reasons (i.e. safety, drugs, no current TB vaccination, inconvenience, etc.). THE SHELTER OPERATES IF THE WEATHER IS 32 DEGREES OR BELOW DURING THE NIGHT. Again, we follow the Determination Matrix from Front Steps for weather forecasts. 4. What is needed: Volunteers for dinner preparation, drivers to take neighbors back to their corner by 7:00 a.m., and overnight hosts through various shifts in the evening and the night. EACH ROLE IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO RUN THE COLD WEATHER SHELTER.
1. Mission: To provide compassionate and kind stewardship to our homeless brothers and sisters. 2. Quarterly Showers/Haircuts/Dinner/Clothing events occur in the spring, summer, fall and winter. When each homeless neighbor enters the facility, s/he receives a toiletry bag. 3. Toiletry bags need to include a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, one pair of socks, a comb, shaving cream, and some snacks which someone without teeth could eat (i.e. raisins, rice krispie treat, etc.).
1. Mission: To provide compassionate and kind stewardship to our homeless brothers and sisters. 2. During our quarterly shower events which occur spring, summer, fall and winter, volunteers are needed who sole job is to mingle with the homeless neighbors when they eat their dinner. We want each neighbor to feel included and to feel love from others.
